How Science Standards are Applied

How Science Standards are Applied in a School Setting

*Teachers should help students build on scientific inquiry

i.e. Teaching students that science inquiry is not synonymous with hands-on activities

*Teachers should provide opportunities for student engagement in science activities

*Teachers must ensure that students attempt to answer questions about scientific questions with good evidence

*Teachers must understand that scientific knowledge is best learned when students are engaged in collaborative group work

*Teachers should help students use self-directed thinking when learning science

*Teachers should create a curriculum that considers student interest and understanding of the science they are learning

*Teachers should adopt topics for their classroom that explore depth rather than disconnected topics
