Homework & Assessments

Homework:

  • Homework is given to students on Monday through Thursday. Homework assignments consist of extended practice of skills learned in school.
  • Students are expected to practice their addition and subtraction flashcards on a daily basis, as well as reading at least 10 to 20 minutes a day, including weekends. Download and print a reading log for your child:

  • Students are expected to write homework assignments on their agenda books everyday. Please use your child's agenda book as a reference for daily homework completion. If you have any questions, please contact me.

                                   Dog Eating Homework

Assessments:

  • Fridays are usually "test days." Language arts, math and science or social studies tests are given on this day to assess students' understanding and acquisition of material taught during the week. Based on these assessments, lessons are planned according to the students' needs and strengths.

Weekly Assessments:

Language Arts:

Spelling (assessed on Friday)

"Story Test" (given on Friday, includes weekly vocabulary words used in sentences and comprehension questions about the story of the week)

Summary (students work on summarizing the story of the week and submit it on Friday)

Center Work (students work on weekly vocabulary, a specific comprehension strategy, grammar and writing during the week, and submit the work on Friday)

Fresh Read (students are tested on oral reading fluency and comprehension of an unfamiliar text once a week or every two weeks)

Math:

Fact Fluency (assessed on Friday)

Math Test (given on Friday, includes math skills learned and reviewed during the week)

Science/Social Studies:

Science/Social Studies Test (given on Friday every two weeks)
