Monday | No School - Labor Day | |
Tuesday | Welcome & Rules: Students will understand the class rules and rewards system for positive behavior. TPR (Total Physical Response) Activity: Where is Thumbkin? My goal is for students to begin participating using hand motions while hearing music. This exercise stresses skills on greetings and farewells. Writing Activity: Students will be asked to respond to the following journal prompt: What are your three favorite things to build and how do you use your hands to build them (play dough, blocks, legos, etc)? | Susan seemed to really enjoy the TPR activity today. Although she wouldn't talk, she participated and wrote the answers to any questions that I asked. In her writing, she said that she likes to build books, baskets, and paper. She was able to show me what these items are made out of. |
Wednesday |
TPR Activity: Around the Room -Students will play a game that involves moving around the room and locating objects. They will listen for clues and locate objects based on what is heard. Read Aloud: The Chimp that Went to School - Students will listen to a read aloud. They will be asked questions about characters, objects in pictures, and what is taking place. Writing Activity: Students will respond to the following based on the read aloud: Who was the main character what happened to him in this story? |
Susan enjoyed the TPR activity. When reading the read aloud, I asked Susan who she thought the main character would be. I showed her the cover and described a main character's role. |
Thursday | TPR Activity: All Around the School (p. 56) - Students and I will walk around the school building. I will say names of rooms and places, or show students on note cards. They will locate the places around the building. Writing Activity: Students will learn about characteristics of caves and mountains. Students will read the directions once and I will read after she does. They will read and respond to the following in a journal: Would you rather explore a cave or climb a mountain? Explain. | Susan did an awesome job locating places around the school (office, library, gym, etc.). I read The Cave to her asking questions about vocabulary and predicting what would happen. In her writing, she said she'd rather explore a cave and find newspaper, a key, and shark's teeth. |
Friday | TPR Activity: Hi My Name is Joe! This activity involves using large motor skills and following directions. Game: Hang Man: Using a board game, Students and I will make words together. I will teach them how to play the game of Hang Man and they will have to come up with a word and also guess the word that I will choose. | Instead of the TPR activity chosen originally, Susan was asked to put the days of the week in order. She knew how to do this very well. Then I asked her to put the days of the week where they belonged underneath where it said 'Today is', 'yesterday was', and 'tomorrow will be.' |
