Hello my name is Richard Lucas. I am the Academic Principal at Greater Johnstown Middle School. I oversee all Academic components of the Educational Design at JMS.
I became the Academic Principal of JMS in July of 2012 and am so excited to be there. Prior to being a Principal, I held the positions of Assistant Principal, Guidance Counselor/Transition Coordinator, CBI and Transition Facilitator, and Emotional Support Teacher. I have been with the Greater Johnstown School District since 2002-2003.
I am a lifelong resident of the Greater Johnstown Area. I graduated from Ferndale Area High School in 1995. Following high school, I attended Gannon University in Erie, PA and earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary/Special Education. I attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania for my graduate studies and received an Masters Degree in Education in the area Counselor Education which certified me as a Secondary School Counselor. I also hold certifications in the areas of Principal (K-12) and Special Education Supervisor. I attended Saint Francis University to obtain these additional certifications.
I am the proud father of three boys. My wife is also in education and is a teacher in the Central Cambria School District. My family is very important to me and is the focus of my personal life.
Penn State Athletics are a passion for me as I am a season ticket holder in both Football and Wrestling. I also enjoy supporting the Steelers and most of all Our Men of Troy, the Johnstown Trojans!
