LANGUAGE ARTS

Language Arts includes the concepts of reading, writing, speaking, and listening, as well as, using critical thinking skills to go "beyond the actual written text".

Specific Goals of Language Arts

To have students develop the strategies needed to become competent, confident, and fluent readers.

To have students analyze and interpret various reading materials.

To build a larger base of students' overall knowledge by reading and discussing genres, such as fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and a play.

To expand students' use of vocabulary.

To have students critically go beyond the text while discussing the author's purpose, activating prior knowledge, asking and responding to questions not answered within the text, and enhancing the story content.

To develop students' oral and written communiction skills by demonstrating organization of their thought process while responding to the lesson of the day.
