Learn how to use your hands as portion guides when eating.  Because your hands fit perfectly with your own body, you can use them to find out the correct portions of different types of food. 

 

Hand Guide   =   Portions for Things Like: 

  One fist =  fruits, vegetables    

One thumb tip  =   butter, ketchup

Palm of hand =  meat, fish, chicken, beans

One thumb length  =   mayo, peanut butter

  Two cupped hands =  cereal, mini bagel, bread, pasta

                             Two fingers worth =  cheese, raisins, peanuts, yogurt pops                    

 Three fingers worth  =  French fries, candy, cookies, chips
