What/Why/How?

Mrs. Holcombe’s Kindergarten class created color wheels following the reading of Mouse Paint, by Ellen Stoll Walsh.  Mouse Paint is about three white mice who discover primary and secondary colors.  The Mice come across three jars of paint; blue yellow and red.  After diving in the jars and painting themselves, then begin to dance in the other puddles of paint.  As the blue mouse dances in the red puddle he discovers that he can make violet.  When the yellow mouse sees this, he begins dancing in the blue paint and creates green.  The red mouse then jumps into the yellow paint and dances until he turns orange.  The three mice discover secondary colors through mixing primary colors together.  The kindergarteners used the primary colors to create a color wheel with secondary colors.  Following the creation of their color wheel, the kindergarteners created three white mice climbing through the paint.

Students must be able to recognize the primary colors in order to create secondary colors.
