Homework Policy

Mrs. Hrabosky’s Homework Policy

This letter is to help better explain my homework policy and the expectations that I have of my students.  Homework will be the responsibility of each student. The reason for homework is to provide each student with the opportunity to practice skills or refresh their memory with information that was learned throughout the day. Each student is required to write any and all assignments in his/her student planner that is provided by the school.  As I always tell them, “If it is important enough for me to write on my chalkboard then it is important enough to write in your planner.”  At the end of each and every day, I go over all of the day’s assignments and tell them to take out what is needed for the evening. I try to avoid giving homework over a weekend as I know that this is a time for family and friends.

Each night, there is homework in Math, Reading, Spelling and Grammar (except for Fridays).  In Science and Social Studies, there is homework, but not on a nightly basis.  As the students are only 9 and 10 years old in most cases, it is very beneficial if the parents/guardians check their child’s planner for assignments.  If in doubt, you can also check my website through the school district.  Log on to www.fasdk12.org.  Click on the elementary tab at the top of the page and scroll down to the section labeled “Teacher’s Pages” on the left side of the screen.  You will be directed to each teacher’s web page by name.  Just click on my name and explore the site.  I will keep it updated on a regular basis.  I do not check planners and you do not need to sign planners.  I will check the homework daily to ensure that it has been completed.

After every fifth assignment, students that have completed all homework are given a homework pass good for one assignment.  They also have the option of turning the pass in for a prize.  For each day’s assignment not completed, the student is given a Quiet Lunch.  He/She will eat lunch that day in a classroom and will not be given recess, but instead will work on the missed assignment.  As per the school district handbook, three missed homeworks will result in a detention. This is to help instill responsibility as well as show students that there are always good/bad consequences for their actions.

And lastly, if at any time you would like to check upon your child’s progress, please feel free to contact me either by phone (814)535-6724 or email.  It is important to me to keep a line of communication open with each and every one of you.

I look forward to this school year with your child and you.

Mrs. Hrabosky

I have read Mrs. Hrabosky’s Homework policy and understand the rewards and consequences for students.
