Helpful Tips for:
Parents
- Talk about real-world math with your kids ~ when you’re shopping, banking, cooking or baking, traveling, etc.
- Have a homework routine: designate a time and a distraction free place to complete homework.
- Make math fun ~ play math games and visit websites that help kids practice math.
- Don't just ask your child what he/she learned in school today - have them teach you the math skill they've been learning. It's a great way to see if they have a true understanding of the concept.
- When you're estimating or problem solving - share your strategies and techniques. Have your child share his/her ideas about the same problem.
- Contact the your child's teacher if you're noticing a problem.
Students
- Practice and memorize your basic math facts.
- Be responsible for your learning. If you don’t understand something ask your teachers or your parents for help.
- Complete your homework and class assignments.
- Have fun with math ~ find a great math website or play a math game.
- Think about all of the everyday things you do that involve MATH!
