Grading Procedures

All graded activities are given points.  Each quarter grade is determined by the total points possible divided by the total points earned.  Grades will be updated on Skyward weekly and students are strongly encouraged to keep track of thier progress.  Skyward is also a way to check if you are missing graded assignments that need to be made up.  This is your responsibility! At the midterm, parents will be reminded to check Skyward for student progress, as well as the four report cards that will be sent at the end of the quarter.

Grades take different forms.  Here are some of the more common forms:

  1. Daily homework -- small assignments worth four points each.  These assignments are due the next day, unless stated otherwise in class.  Half credit will be given late assignments.  Other homeworks not completed will result in zeroes. These assignments will make up  about 10% of the grade.  The student has total control over this grade since this grade reflects effort and completion.  These assignments related to the current topics being taught when assigned.
  2. Tests and Quizzes--these assessments are always announced.  Quizzes will be on smaller segments of the material covered.  Tests are larger and study guides are given. These assessments are not as frequent.
  3. Graded assignments--these are activities that involve the use of a source with deadline dates provided.  These assignments may be started in class but may require more time to complete. Many activities fall into this category. They will involve the use of primary sources, computer lessons and a variety of class sources.  Penalty points may be assessed when assignments are not completed on time.  Once these assignments are graded and handed back, they cannot count for a grade unless special arrangements are made to complete the assignment  with the teacher.  Due dates are important.
  4. Projects-- consists of both in class and out of class assignments that might include some form of presentation
  5. Bonus--small point opportunities that are given throughout each quarter and are open to everyone.  These may include additional points for extra questions, points for exemplarity work, or small additional assignments.  These points are not meant to "fix" a major deficit.
