Standardized Achievement Tests
The goal for standardized testing is to ensure that testing conditions are nearly similar as possible for all students.
For standardized scores to be meaningful, teachers do the following:
~Review test manuals in advance
~Encourage students to do their best
~Closely follow directions
~Strictly adhere to time limits
~Avoid interruptions
~Be alert to cheating
Standardized achievement tests typically contain high-quality items that were selected on the basis of both a quantitative and qualitative item analysis procedure. These tests may provide both norm-referenced interpretation (allows comparison to the performance of other students) and criterion-referenced interpretation (allows comparison to an established criterion).
