Seventh Grade Reading

 

Expectations

  • Students are expected to have a notebook, three ring binder, folder, and writing utensil.
  • Student must bring their materials to class everyday!
  • Each marking period, students will be given participation points based on their materials, attitude, and participation in class discussion.

 

Curriculum

  • The Seventh Grade Reading curriculum focuses on giving students the tools to analyzing and evaluating different genres of literature.
    • We will discuss fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, stories told in oral tradition, novels, and short stories.
    • Students will learn various reading strategies and will be expected to use them on a regular basis.
    • Vocabulary will be contextual. 
  • Activities, assignments, and projects will have both written and spoken components. 
  • Students will also develop a working portfolio throughout the year, which will become a display portfolio by the end of the fourth marking period. This activity will teach students to evaluate their own academic progress and work ethic.
