English Language Proficiency Assessments

World Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA)

WIDA provides resources for English Language Learners, parents of ELLs, teachers, and school administrators.  The resources include: academic language standards for classroom use, Can Do Descriptors that provide information related to what ELLs can accomplish at each grade level cluster and English language proficiency level, and teacher trainings on administering the WIDA Access for ELLs and the W-APT (initial screening for placement into ESL programs).

WIDA ACCESS for ELLs

English Language Learners are assessed at five English language proficiency levels.  They are: 1-Entering, 2-Beginning, 3-Developing, 4-Expanding, and 5-Bridging.  The WIDA Access assessment is designed to assess ELLs in reading, writing, speaking, and listening at grade level clusters; Kindergarten, grades 1-2, grades 3-5, grades 6-8, and grades 9-12.  WIDA ACCESS assesses students at those students across three tiers (A, B, and C).
