This is the classroom library.  In the classroom library, the students are exposed to different books. 

The books are displayed in book baskets, which are organized by level and genre. 

This is the small-group reading instruction area.  The students meet with me at this table in small-groups for guided reading.  During guided reading, the students are grouped by similar reading levels and work together to review reading strategies and practice reading skills.  A list of reading strategies the students are taught to use while reading are displayed on the bulletin board.  We work on comprehension, fluency, accuracy, and building vocabulary.  

 

This is the morning meeting bulletin board.  This is displayed in the front of the classroom and is used each morning to guide the students through the daily morning meeting.  During morning meeting, the students review various mathematical concepts including the calendar, weather, telling time, counting, grouping, and money.

 

This is the computer area.  The classroom has four student computers that are used on a daily basis.   

We also have an IPad.  

 

 

      



 

This is the cubby area.  The students use this area to store their backpacks and jackets.  I use the mailboxes to place student papers and documents that are sent home with the children each day.  We also use girl and boy popsicle sticks for our lunch count.  We also use Zeus for our job chart.  We earn marbles for good behavior.  When the fish bowl is filled, we have a classroom reward.  The students have their own supply station.  

         



This is the sight words and writing word wall (words are coming soon-pictures taken before school started).  This is a collection of words the students are responsible for learning in first grade.  The students use this word wall and sight words to assist them during the reading and writing process.
