Question 1: Why do you think the sunlight is shorter in the winter time compared to summer time?
Answer 1: The sun is closer to the earth. Im not to sure. I think it has to do with scientific knowledge. It has to do with one of two things...either the equator or the position of the sun. I think the sun is actually higher in the summer than in the winter.
Answer 2: The sun is further away from the earth which is why there are shorter amounts of sunlight. It also has to do with the way in which the sun revolves around the earth.
Answer 3: Due to the rotation of the earth and the way it rotates. Also, the Earth is rotating away from the sun...its tilted away from the sun. So basically when it is spinning, it is rotating.
Question 2: Based on the previous question, how do you think this effects the temperature?
Answer 1: Certain areas will become much warmer and some colder. The higher the sun, the hotter its going to be. In a wider area, from that perspective, the higher the sun, it means it is covering a wider area.
Answer 2: If the sun is further away from the Earth, it will obviously be colder. When summer comes and the Sun get closer to the Earth, the land will become warmer. It has to do with the Summer solstice and Winter solstice.
Answer 3: During the winter, it is clearly a lot colder because the sun is facing away from the Earth. I think its true that when the sun hits the ground, the rays produce more heat which makes it warmer in the summer time.
Question 3: Why do you think in certain areas (e.g. Alaska) the sun never sets for 2 1/2 months in the summer, and never rises for 2 1/2 months in the winter?
Answer 1: I think it is because the way the atompshere is tilted. So the atmosphere has a certain tilt or angle to it, and Alaska in those times of the year, either get a lot of sun or very little sun.
Answer 2: The sunlight in the summer comes out more than in the winter. I am really not sure. Is it because Alaska is closer to the North Pole? I am not sure but I think it also might have to do with the equator. I do not think the Sun rotates.
Answer 3: Alaska is located towards one of the polar caps where it is generally cold 6 months at a time. They are also more located more northern than any other state in the US so the effect of the rotation of the sun might have an impact with location.
