     Here are the important dates for the month of October!!!!

     Here's the scoop for the month of October!!!!!

     In spelling, our tests will be on October 4th, 11th, 18th, and the 25th.  Our big review test will be on the 18th.

     In reading, we will be finishing up the last story in Unit 1 during the week of the 7th.  We will be learning about consonant digraphs.  Our comprehension skill will be facts and details.

     It will be review week during the week of the 14th.  We will be reviewing all the skills taught in the first unit.  We will review short vowels, long vowels, consonant blends, inflected endings, and consonant digraphs.

     In comprehension, we will review character and setting, main idea and details, and facts and details.

     We will complete Unit 1 reading test.  We will then begin Unit 2.

     In English, we will be learning about exclamatory and imperative sentences during the week of the 7th.  We will then review all the skills taught thus far, sentence or fragments, subjects, predicates, and the four types of sentences.

     In writing, we will finish all the lowercase slant print letters.  We will begin the capitals.

     In science, we will finish metamorphosis and insects.  We will learn about fire safety and bus safety.  We also will be reading our Social Studies Weekly.  This is great for comprehension as well as learning about our country.

     In math, we will be learning about finding the perimeter of squares, triangles, and rectangles during the week of the 7th.

     Our next chapter is on story problems.  This is a challenging chapter!!!!  We will learn how to:

solve change plus and change minus story problems

solve collection story problems

solve comparision problems

solve story problems with extra information

solve story problems with hidden information

solve two-step story problems

write story problems

     This chapter will take us to the end of the month.

     As you can see we have lots of learning in the month of October!!!!!
