8/24/15: First day! Go over syllabus and expectations. Assign books.

            Homework: Create Connect account, Read Brinkley pgs. 3-9, begin essential terms

8/25/15: Explain BCE and CE replacing BC and AD, centuries. PowerPoint slides 1-7.

            Homework: Research Indian Nations (Anasazi, Cahokia, and Powhatan). Read Brinkley Pages 9-23, continue essential terms

8/26/15: Discuss Indian Nation Research. Slide 8.

Homework: Create a three-column chart summarizing the different goals held by each European power that settled in the Americas (Spanish, English, French). Be able to explain how Spain, England, and France dealt with their colonies and the Native Americans politically, economically, and socially.

8/27/15: Go over research. Lecture slides 9-18.

            Homework: Read Brinkley pages 23-33, finish essential terms. Due 8/31/15

8/28/15: Essential Terms due today. Read Columbus’ letter to Sant Angel and Bartolome de Las Casas letter.

Write a thesis statement answering the following question: Columbus: Hero or villain? Then make an outline for a potential paper.

Homework: Finish reading documents and thesis statement. Review the Recommended Additional Research websites listed below!

8/31/15: Watch the Gilder Lehrman Unit 1 video/DBQ video. Complete SOAPSTone on "Columbus Letter to Isabella and Ferdinand."

            Homework: Finish SOAPSTone and begin Chapter 1 Discussion Questions

9/1/15: Thesis Statement Due. Lecture slides 19-23. In the book, read pages 8-9, "Why Do Historian's So Often Differ?". Begin Source Sheet Motivations of English to the New World

Homework: Complete Motivations sheet. Continue Chapter 1 Discussions. Connect- Complete Connect Assignments

9/2/15: Multiple Choice, 2 short answer, and 1 essay response.

Homework: Finish writing assignments, due 9/4/15. If needed, complete additional independent research (Check out the Gilder Lehrman website Unit 1). Read Brinkley Chapter 2 pp. 37-42. Begin essential terms.
