Miss K's Health and Physical Education
Central Mountain Middle School
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! We are looking forward to the opportunity of providing your child(ren) with a meaningful, quality physical education experience. The goal of the Physical Education program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to value and apply physical activity and its benefits for a lifetime. Through active participation in movement and sport, students will foster an appreciation for personal fitness and other social skills vital to becoming healthy, productive members of the community.
The Health and Physical Education department of Keystone Central School District was lucky enough to receive a PEP grant for the next 3 school years. This grant requires us to teach to certain curriculum and model. We are asking students to be patient with us as this is all new to every PE teacher in the building.
Sport Education is a curriculum and instruction model designed for delivery in physical education programs at the upper elementary, middle school, and high school levels. It is intended to provide children and youth with more authentic and enjoyable sport experiences than what we typically see in past physical education classes. Students participate as members of teams in seasons that are longer than the usual physical education unit. They take an active role in their own sport experience by serving in varied and realistic roles that we see in authentic sport settings such as captains, coaches, trainers, statisticians, officials, publicists, and members of a sports council. Teams develop camaraderie through team uniforms, names, and cheers as they work together to learn and develop skill and tactical play.
The SPARK curriculum strives to improve the health of children, adolescents and adults by disseminating evidence based Physical Education. Students who participate in the SPARK PE program will….
Physical Education Units:
- Tennis, Soccer, Football, Fitness Stations, Volleyball, Basketball, Team Handball, Wallball, Floor Hockey, Table Tennis, Badminton, Pickleball, Lacrosse, Bowling, Softball.
- Students will also participate in the Presidential Physical Fitness Testing. Skills for this include the mile run, shuttle run, pull ups, push ups, sit ups, and sit and reach
Expectations for PE Students

Jeans, spaghetti strapped tank tops, shorts that are to short for a female, and flip flops are not to be worn under any circumstances. No jewelry.
2. Long lockers are for class use only. It is the student’s responsibility to bring their own combination lock, which can be purchased in office or Walmart, in order to secure possessions. Failure to lock up personal belongings results in theft and stolen items are difficult to recover. Stolen items are not the responsibility of the PE teacher.
3. Showers are optional. Please bring deodorant for after class and limiting perfume/axe is HIGHLY suggested!!
4. Be on time to class. You will only have a few minutes to change and be prepared for class. Do not wait for friends, failure to get into gym on time results in a tardy to class.
5. If your child cannot participate in class, please send a note informing us of their limitations. If child cannot participate for more than 3 PE days, a doctors note is required. Students who are unable to participate in class, will have either a written report or will walk during PE class to receive a grade for that day.
6. Observe all safety rules. Do not perform unsafe acts. Follow locker room conduct. Do not destroy equipment or school property, if this happens it is the students responsibility to pay for equipment. No food or drinks in the gym, including gum.
7. All cell phones, iPods, and other electronic devices cannot be out during class time. This includes the locker room, if we see them they will be turned into office. Swearing or vulgar language will not be tolerated. Fighting is strictly forbidden.
8. Show good sportsmanship. No harassing, bulling or putting down others.
9. RESPECT your classmates personal belongings. PE areas are off limits during non-class hours. Lock all valuables and personal belongings in a gym locker during class to prevent theft. If there is trouble in locker rooms, they will be locked up during class time and not reopened until classes are over.
10. Turn in all found items immediately to the teacher. Check with PE office and lost and found box for lost times.
11. Leave all class equipment alone until teacher gives OK. At the conclusion of class, all equipment must be returned to its place.
For successful participation in Physical Education, we expect all students to dress daily, follow all directions, and give their maximum effort. Students are graded on dressing and being prepared, participation and tests (No tests for 6th grade)
District wide grading policy for test taking:
Points will be deducted for not dressing and/or lack of participation. Students have 3 strikes to not change for Physical Education, the 4th strike results in a detention. This is reset every 9 weeks. Discipline for behavior will be dealt with depending on the severity of rule that was broken.
Together, we can help create a class that is fun, positive and inspires responsible behavior. Thank you for your support!
