CLASSWORK:

10/4 -  The homework of a rough draft of an intro paragraph and two supportive paragraphs that started the biography were collected. We started the lesson with brainstorming rules that are passed down from generation to generation that might make someone a successful person. Students read the excerpt of rules that George Washington wrote down in a journal to instruct him to lead a successful life. Mr. Stemler modeled how to answer the first three questions using Rule 1. Rest of the period was used by the class to work on the in-class assignment.

10/5 - We revisited the idea of organizing our thoughts for the biography which is due on Tuesday, 10/10. We made a seven box graphic organizer with the top box being what we would put in the introductory paragraph. The next five boxes had the main topic of the paragraph and some details. Then we moved onto a background of the Articles of Confederation and why a new Constitution was created and its advantages over the A or C. We started the PowerPoint presentation of Note Set #1

10/6 - Completed Note Set #1 pertaining to Washington  CH9 SEC1 GW Pres Notes w Answers.docx

10/10 - Went over Washington's Cabinet as the Quasimodo - Introduced Hamilton's Financial Plan - PP HAMILTON’S FINANCIAL PLAN.pptx

10/11 - We spent most of the period discussing the homework for better understanding of the concepts.

10/12 - We reviewed the cabinet members; we read a teacher produced play about Hamilton's Plan. We took a "pop quiz" which the students knew about and finally, we read an article called, "A Difficult Task".

10/13 - We went over the homework which was to finish the worksheet on "A Difficult Task." We pondered General Benjamin Lincoln's hypothesis that "civilized and uncivilized people cannot live together in a territory or a neighborhood."

10/16 - We started by correcting a teacher made chart on the Bank of the United States and the thoughts of Jefferson and Hamilton pertaining to it. We read pages 319 - 321 and completed the work about the United States relations with the Native Americans of the Northwest Territory. People that we learned about were "Mad" Anthony Wayne and Little Turtle. The battle of Fallen Timbers is now part of the history vocabulary as well as the Treaty of Greenville.

10/17 - Quick review of yesterday's work; we went over the homework about the Whiskey Rebellion after teacher background information was given. We watched a video on the Whiskey Rebellion. (See WS #16 above)

10/18 - We read p. 235 about Shays's Rebellion and discovered that the national government was weak, but the Whiskey Rebellion proved that the national government had gained strength. We also finished and reviewed the video guide to find out that Washington really felt that the national laws had to be enforced to prove the power of the federal government.

10/19 - The Quas was a look at Washington's domestic challenges and the solutions and outcomes - similarities and differences; we made Washington's foreign policy dilemna personal by suggesting that two of your friends hate each other and both have threatened you if you remain friends with their enemy. We read p. 322 in the text and filled out the back of WS #15 to the stop sign. Mr. Stemler will cover that in class on 10/20.

10/20 - Opened with a quiz focussed on the front of the WS #15 Problems at Home. A mini-lecture about the French Revolution and the Jay and Pinckney Treaties.

10/23 - Opened with the quasimodo about the reasons to favor the British and reasons to favor the French review. We looked at Citizen Genet and how he was trying to provoke war. We reviewed that the British were impressing (kidnapping American sailors). We previewed Washington's Farewell Address (modified version) so we know what we are talking about tomorrow.

10/24 - We went over the President's Farewell Address most of the period.

10/25 - Quasimodo was a review of some of the people involved in foreign policy like Hamilton, Jefferson, Washington, Genet, Jay, and Pinckney. Then, we went over the homework so if you were absent we checked our answers to CH 9, Sec 3 Reading Guide #1a - 2b. Then students filled out the chart on said worksheet using pages 328 and the illustration on p. 329. We reviewed our findings by using large review cards for Jefferson and Hamilton.

10/26 - Quasimodo was a review of the differences between Hamilton and Jefferson. We did the worksheet Opposite Sides of a Penny in class doing the four questions. We went over the homework on the XYZ Affair. We performed a teacher produced play. Some classes looked at the illustration on page 330 in the textbook.

10/27 - Club schedule for Pep Rally - We covered the Alien and Sedition Acts; the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions; as well as the idea that Adams was the first President to live in Washington, DC making him the first to live in the White House

10/30 - We did the quasimodo which was a refresher on the Alien and Sedition Acts as well as the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions; we graded WS #20 - CH 9 Sec 1 & 2 Crosswords in class as well as the CH 9 Sec 3 Review and Practice sheet WS #21.

10/31 - We took a test on Chapter 9 and handed in worksheets #15 - CH 9 Sec 2 Graphic Organizer, #20 - Ch 9 Sec 1 & 2 Crossword, & #21 - Ch 9 Sec 3 Section Quiz and Practice.
