CLASS HAPPENINGS:

11/1/17 - We did a self read on Hamilton and Jefferson and answered a couple of questions. Then, students answered three questions about the timeline on pages 336 - 7. They then copied  the Vocabulary on page 338 in their notebooks.

11/2/17 - We graded the notebooks and then reviewed the test results for CH 9 Test.

11/3/17 - We caught up with odds and ends and completed the timeline questions from the board. We self examined what we knew about Thomas Jefferson.

11/7/17 - We started with a quote from JFK about Thomas Jefferson. This Quasimodo is a class grade based upon cold reading, so it must be made up by those that are absent. Quasimodo 2 was a review of the vocabulary that you copied in class. Then we filled out Note Set 1 of the 2nd Marking Period which was a KWL chart about Jefferson - what you know, what you wonder, what you learned. We then proceeded to read the textbook page 339, completing as much of WS #2 Jefferson Notes as we could. What we did not finish was for homework.

11/8/17 - Today, the Quasimodo were three questions pertaining to the Presidential Election of 1800 - what two political parties were vying for the White House and who were their candidates; which of the parties was accused of wanting a monarchy and which was accused of promoting violence and killing. How did the Election end up?

11/9/17 - Started with a comprehensive Quasimodo about John Adams, T. Jefferson, Al Hamilton, A. Burr, judicial review, Marbury v. Madison.; then, we looked at the reasons for Marbury v. Madison and why Marshall ruled the way he did. We looked at Jefferson's versus Marshall's views on who should declare a law unconstitutional. In two of the classes we closed with a teacher produced play.

11/10/17 - Started with collecting worksheets #2 & 3; we then did Who Wants to be a Millionaire - Marbury v. Madison; we then took the scheduled quiz and then worked on questions that pertain to advantages and disadvantages of a country acquiring new lands.

11/13/17 - We were given new seats. We looked at the advantages and disadvantages when a country acquires new unexplored land. We split the class into two groups and read our selected readings. One side read pg 345 and the top of 346, while the other side read page 346 section "The US Expands". We created a graphic organizer with the information on it.

11/14/17 - We went over the homework from last night. We made sure that we knew why Napoleon sold the Louisiana Territory to the United States and why Thomas Jefferson had a tough time deciding what to do when he found out his ministers signed the treaty.

11/15/17 - We did the quasimodo which was an explanation of the factors that allowed the sale of the Louisiana Territory to the United States from France; we finished reading WS #6 RLH: Louisiana Purchase to explain the Federalist side of the purchase. Hamilton said that the sale of New Orleans was good, but who would move into the West with the Native Americans there. He also said it would weaken the national government's hold on power. King brought up the idea that the sale would be unconstitutional while also fearing the spread of slavery throughout the territory. Pickering thought it was wrong because he hated Jefferson. We finished by doing the Power Point: Are You Smarter Than Jefferson?  Attached:  So you think you are as smart as.pptx  We closed with doing #11b on WS #4 CH 10 Sec 2 Reading Guide

11/16/17 - Quasimodo was the short quiz that we took on the material covered in class over the last few days. If you did not take the quiz today, you must make it up. We went over the homework that was due today. We saw the results of the Smarter than Jefferson Quiz in which all the answers were False. We then divided into groups and looked at various primary sources that told about happenings that Lewis and Clark encountered along their journey. We still have some stations to go in all the sections.

11/17/17 - Club day - shortened periods. The Quasimodo was two-fold. First, why were the Federalists against the Louisiana Purchase. Answers should have included that they hated Jefferson; they did not want the institution of slavery spreading; they thought that it was unnecessary because the land the US currently owned was not occupied; they maintained that the President did not have the power in the Constitution.  The second Quasimodo question were the reasons for the Lewis and Clark Expedition which were that Jefferson wanted to know if the Missouri River was the long sought Northwest Passage body of water to the Pacific to facilitate trade with Asia; Jefferson ordered that Lewis and Clark make peaceful contact with the Native Americans and find out about their cultures; Jefferson ordered that Lewis and Clark create maps of the landscape and make studies artistic and detailed notes about the plants and animals of the west.

11/20/17 - We finished reviewing the results of the Lewis and Clark Expedition walkabout. We went over the answers to the homework - #16a - 17d on WS #4 CH 10 Sec 2 Reading Guide. If you did not have it, you must get it checked off by Mr. Stemler. We then started the Lewis and Clark video in which students had to watch it and fill in a video guide. If you are absent on 11/20 or 11/21, you are responsible to make up the work.

11/21/17 - We finished the video on the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Time was given to complete the back of the video guide.

11/22/17 - No class as movies were shown.

11/28/17 - Started with the Quasimodo which was a couple of questions about the 1800 Presidential election - who won, who opposed him, who tied him, and what group of men elected him?  Thomas Jefferson, John Adams was the Federalist Presidential opponent, Aaron Burr tied him, and the House of Representatives elected him.   We went over WS #8 CH 10 Sec 2 Reteaching Activity and Section Quiz. We then took notes on CH 10 Sec 3 Path to War of 1812. See notes above for Path to War.  PP CH 10 Sec 3 Path to War Filled in.pptx

11/29/17 - Started with the Quasimodo which dealt mostly with judicial review, Marbury v. Madison, John Marshall. We reviewed the homework that was due and corrected it in class. We handed in worksheet #8 to be graded CH 10 Sec 2 Reteach and Section QZ. I introduced the small group project. Students read their section and developed a concept for a poster.

11/30/17 - Started with the Quasimodo which primarily reviewed the major features of WS #10 #1 - 7d. Then, for the rest of the period, students worked on small group posters pertaining to the War of 1812.

12/1/17 - Presented our posters and findings on our selected readings from the text.

12/4/17 - Finished the presentations, reviewed the CH 10 Sec 3 Reading Guide homework with the help of a powerpoint presentation. Graded the CH 10 Sec 3 Packet.

12/5/17 - Completed grading the CH 10 Sec 3 Packet as well as the Crossword; we played some Kahoot as a review game.

12/6/17 - Collected worksheets #10, 11 & 12 - We took the CH 10 Test.
