What happened in class:

December 7, 2017 - First, we went over the results of the CH 10 Test given on Wednesday. Then, we did the quasimodo which was "what types of things are made in a factory". Naturally, we found out that most modern things are made in a factory, but in the beginning it would be cloth. Lastly, we heard another outstanding lecture from the master of lectures about the Industrial Revolution.

December 8, 2017 - The quasimodo was four questions about yesterday's lecture. 1) The Industrial Revolution can be defined as when production of materials is moved from the __________ to _______________. Who is considered the "Father of the American Industrial Revolution"? F.C. __________ developed the system of cloth making with all three phases under one roof.   Why was New England a good place for the American Industrial Revolution to begin? We then divided into assembly lines or "individual" workplaces to create packets of stationery. Lastly, we debriefed.

December 11, 2017 - The Quasimodo was to get out homework so it could be graded and to obtain a laptop. Individually, we took notes on the Workings of a Mill found in the animations of Classzone.com under Ch 11, Sec 1 Animated History. No password is needed to access this area. Follow the directions on the WS #15 linked above.

December 12, 2017 - We finished the Mill Graphic Organizer and started watching a video about Mill Times.

December 13, 2017 - Internet was down until 12:30. Periods 3, 4, & 5 was given the chance to finish the homework that was originally due on Friday, but now is due on Monday due to the unexpected snow day. Period 6 watched the end of the Mill Times video.

December 15, 2017 - Periods 3,4, & 5 watched the video on the Mills while period 6 watched another video and was able to do their homework.

December 18, 2017 - We took a mini "pop" quiz even though the students were warned about it based upon the front side of WS #14, CH 11 Sec 1 RG; then we did a walkabout to look at the inventions that we will learn this week.

December 19, 2017 - We went over the CH 11 Sec 1 #10 - 18 homework using the PowerPoint to visually see the machines that were invented. If you were absent, you need to make up this homework.   PP CH 11 Sec 1 RG 10 - 18 Beta.pptx   We also worked on a chart about the inventions.

December 20, 2017 - The quasimodo was a fill in of the Note Set #5 Inventors/Inventions Chart. We completed the Effects part of the chart. We used Around the Room Cards to review the material

December 21, 2017 - We went over a project that will be due on January 12, 2018. We reviewed for the Quest on CH 11 Sec 1 RG. We began our discussion of Slavery and Cotton and how they interrelate.

December 22, 2017 - Movie Day: Elf and Kung Fu Panda - Miraculous and Awesomeness all wrapped up in one morning.

January 2, 2018 - Two hour delay schedule:  1) Quasimodo was about who invented the cotton gin and what year   2) We completed some notes on cotton growing and completed WS #20 after seeing a couple of videos about the cotton gin. If you were absent, make sure this material is filled out.

January 3, 2018 - Quasimodo was about the two types of cotton and the advantages and disadvantages of each. We took a pre-Quiz on slavery, and then proceeded to go through Worksheet #22: Impressions of Slavery which can be accessed and copied by the above link.

January 8, 2018 - We had an early dismissal schedule set up. We trudged along the WS #22 material Period 3 is through Birth of a Nation vs. John Little suggestions about dancing.

January 9, 2018 - Showed various parts of slavery concentrating on juxtaposing the Birth of a Nation clip about dancing in the slave quarters to the primary sources of the former slaves, John Little and Moses Grandy (See WS #22).

January 10, 2018 - We read worksheet #23 which provide two examples of primary sources that should Southern justification for slavery. One was by Fitzhugh which compared the life of a factory worker to that of a slave and the care of a slaveowner in comparison to a factory owner. It also included Stringfellow's defense of slavery as approved by God because it is found in the Bible.

January 11, 2018 - Students made a chart in which the placed on one side some justifications that would be used by Southern plantation owners to defend their use of slavery. On the other side, they wore their slave hat and hypothesized ways that the African American slave would defy slavery both covertly and overtly (both secretly and openly.)

January 12, 2018 - Students discussed the various ways that African Americans used to resist slavery. They included spirituals, stories, violence, escapes, and more.

January 15, 2018 - A lot of unforeseen absences diminished the quality of class. We graded WS #17 homework which was a multiple choice assignment on CH 11 Sec 2 Practice. Students were allowed to work on their project materials.
