4/1/16: Review Digital History. Lecture Korean War.

Homework: Research “The Hollywood Ten” and then create a newspaper or magazine advertisement. Address the following questions: Who were they? What were their goals? What did they accomplish? Do you agree with HUAC that they were involved in “subversive activity?” Why or why not? Keep in mind what kind of newspaper your advertisement could appear in and what is attempting to be represented.

4/5/16: Review Digital History. Read Chapter 28 Patterns of Popular Culture

Homework: Read Brinkley 779-782. Begin chapter 28 essential terms. Try to watch an episode or clips of “I Love Lucy,” “Leave it to Beaver,” or the “Honeymooners.” You can find these on YouTube. Using pages 780-795, create a timeline of important events, people, places, etc while reading the chapter (refer to subheadings and orange headings within text.) Include at least 2 pictures for each event, person, place, etc and include a brief description.

4/6/16: Continue timeline. Think about the culture of the decade. What do the TV shows, etc show of the 1950s?

4/18/16: Review Digital History. Read J. Edgar Hoover’s letter on campus unrest. Read Chapter 30 Patterns of Popular Culture

Homework: Begin Chapter 30 Essential terms. Read Brinkley 835-840. While reading, include at least 15-20 pictures from the time period, especially of the Counterculture. Listen to some of the popular music from the 1960s-1970s.

4/19/16: Review Outline and pictures. Create chart on “The Mobilization of Minorities.” (Native Amerians, women, Latinos, LGBT) Use Brinkley to help you.

Homework: Read Brinkley 840-847. Complete chart. Review Environmental Advocacy of the 1970s (First Earth Day)

4/20/16: Review Chart. Lecture Nixon, Kissinger, and the World.

Homework: Read Brinkley 847-861. Using page 855-856, create an outline explaining the important court cases of the Warren Court. Watch clips of “All in the Family”. Why do you think this TV show was so popular during the 1970s? Read 1960s Interpreting Sources.

4/21/16: Review Court Cases. Read Watergate Scandal. Read President Ford on Nixon’s Pardon

4/22/16: Read Chapter 31 Articles. Research the Election of 1980. Who were the candidates? Issues? Find a 1980 political/electoral map.

Homework: Continue Research of Election. Read Brinkley pages 874-883. Complete America in Our Time Sources and Questions. ******Recommended Research: Research the presidencies of Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, L. B. Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Clinton, and G.H.W. Bush. Use the evidence from your research to assess the success and impact each president had on the United States politically, economically, and socially.
