Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to a new and exciting year of math! My name is Patrice Dale.
I am looking forward to a fun year of exploring the world of numbers. This is an overview of what your son or daughter will be responsible for in my class. Please feel free to contact me anytime throughout the school year if you have any concerns about your child or the class. Please read over the following information about the requirements of the course.
It will be necessary for each student to come to class prepared. He or she should bring to class daily the following:
Every student is expected to put forth his or her best effort every day. This means always being aware of the classroom rules and procedures. My goal is to achieve a safe/nurturing classroom environment where everyone feels comfortable. I believe this environment will help all students reach their full potential. This is in conjunction with the School Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS) policy adopted by KCSD.
The grade on his or her report card will be determined by all of the following requirements: Homework and a combination of Bell Ringers, Tickets out the Door, Quizzes, Tests, Projects, Teamwork, and Classwork.
Your child will receive homework assignments almost every night. Assignments are listed on this website under each individual class. These assignments must be handed in on time and must be neat for any credit to be given. Assignments will be checked every day. Any assignment that is not completely finished will not receive full credit so it is imperative to attempt every problem. No excuse will be accepted for incomplete assignments or missing assignments, except an absence or emergency situation as defined in the beginning of the year letter. Your child, when absent must complete the assignment he or she missed. He or she will have 3 days (or more depending on duration of absence) to complete and hand in the assignment he or she missed the day they were absent. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain the work he or she missed on the day he or she returns.
Quizzes are given throughout the marking period. Your child must be prepared as they may or may not be announced in advance.
Tests are given after the mid-chapter review and/or the end of each chapter. The tests are announced at least two days in advance. The information will also be on the web page. Tests will consist of all information covered in class. Test material will be similar to homework problems and problems your child worked on in class. If your child receives a test score below a 94%, the test will be sent home to be signed. This will ensure that you are aware of the grade. Please sign the test and return it before the retesting deadline of one week. Reteaching activities will also be required to retest in addition to the parent signature. If your child wishes to retest, he or she can only earn up to a 93% on any retest. So, it is important he or she studies for the test the first time to earn the highest grade possible. Your child will file all his or her assessment items in a folder that will be kept in my classroom. His or her grades will be recorded on Power School regularly. Please make sure you have your user name and password, so you can check the website regularly.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school (570-726-3141 ext. 3012). I can be contacted by e-mail at pdale@kcsd.us. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in your child’s responsibilities in his or her math class this year! I am looking forward to working with you to make this a GREAT and SUCCESSFUL school year!
Thank you,
Mrs. Patrice Dale
