1. E-Learning Handbook: Merlott II
>Online Open Textbook
>No cost, just click on
>It’s is obvious that technology is changing teaching models — both inside and outside of the traditional classroom . This online textbook examines significant trends in online learning to allow people to gain an understanding of what colleges and school districts need to prepare for.
>I would use this book to become more infomraed on the trends on online learning.
>I think this textbook has great quality because of the great facts and information about the importance and use of technology in classrooms.
>I would recommend this book to a future online educator, along with teacher's in the classroom who are looking to consider a blended learning environment.
2. Web 2.0 Tools in Education Series: Scribd
>Online Textbook, can be downloaded as a .pdf or read online
>No cost, just press the download button
>A quick guide to the helpful 2.0 tools that can be useful in education
>I would use this textbook to have a better understanding of the web 2.0 tools that are available in the classroom. For example, the textbook would allow me to learn how twitter & Flikr can be used in a educational setting.
>I think this book is useful and has great quality because of the topics it discusses in a short amount of words. For example, it does not ramble on about the Web 2.0 tool, rather it gives a short, but effective synopsis of how it can be used in education.
>I would reccomend this book to all people, those in the education field or not. It is great to see the variety of Web 2.0 tools and how they can be useful to you.
3. Pre-Calculus: Open Stax College
>Online Textbook
>No cost, must have a user account to view the textbook
>Since precalculus courses vary from one institution to the next, we have attempted to meet the needs of as broad an audience as possible, including all of the content that might be covered in any particular course
>I would use this book to have another source in a Pre-Calc classroom, especially since it is free. Also, if I was a teacher I would use it in my classroom since it is cost effective, depending if students have access to the internet.
>I think this book has quality information in it, however I do not know how useful it is, depends if students have access to the internet.
>I would reccomend this book to all people who are interested or talking a Pre-Calc course.
4. Abstract Algebra: Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources
>Online Textbook
>No cost, just have to use the internet
>The text is intended for a one or two semester undergraduate course in abstract algebra.
>I would use this book if I was a professor for a lesson, especially since its a free course.
>There is enough information, but the quality is not awesome. The information is vague, that is why if a professor used it to guide a lesson, they could tweak the information to the students needs.
>I would not reccomend this book, however like stated before, if a professor has availability to it, I do not think it is a bad idea to check it out.
5. A computational Introduction to Number Theory and Algebra: Open Textbook Library
>Online Textbook, PDF
>No cost, just download as a PDF
>This book has all of the mathematics required beyond basic calculus developed “from scratch.” Moreover, the book generally alternates between “theory” and “applications”
> I would use this book as a future math teacher as a second source to the classroom.
>There is a ton of quality infomation in this textbook, however it can be overwhelming because there is a large amount of words on the page.
>I would recommend this book to a novice math teacher who knows what he or she is doing because of the difficulty of the textbook.
