Miss Mealy's Kindergarten Website
A little about me . . .
My name is Miss Bethany Mealy, and I am so excited for this opportunity to get to know you and to create our learning community together! My lifelong passion is to work with children, and I am so blessed and eager to continue this journey with your students!
Education
I earned my associate degree in education from Liberty University in 2011. In 2014, I received my Early Level Education Degree PreK-4 from the University of Pittsburgh in Bradford. In December 2018, I earned my master’s degree as a certified reading specialist.
Experience
This is my sixth year teaching kindergarten for the Port Allegany Elementary School! I absolutely love kindergarten and feel so blessed to be a part of my amazing team. Since earning my teaching degree, I have been granted the opportunity to work in several different school districts throughout the area. For the 2015-2016 school year, I worked as a long-term fourth grade substitute teacher in the Otto-Eldred Elementary School. During the 2014-2015 school year, I also completed a long-term fifth grade substitute teacher position within the Johnsonburg Area School District. Near the end of the 2013-2014 school year, I additionally held a position as a long-term substitute in a fourth grade classroom for the Bradford Area School District.
While attending the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, I completed a student teaching placement in a fourth grade classroom at School Street Elementary School in Bradford as well as first grade placement in Johnsonburg Area Elementary School. I am so thankful for the opportunity I received to learn from exceptional teachers during those placements!
Prior to receiving my teaching certificate, I also worked as a teacher’s aide for five years with the Seneca Highlands Intermediate Unit 9. I had the privilege of working with some amazing special education and regular education teachers throughout my time there. My role involved working as a Life Skill’s classroom support aide in both the Kane Area Elementary School and the Johnsonburg Area Elementary School. During my time with the IU9, I also worked as an aide in an Applied Behavior Analysis/Autism Initiative Classroom as well as an Early Intervention preschool class.
Personal Interests
I have lived in this area my whole life, and I am so thankful to be in a rural setting. I love spending time with my family and church family. Nearly every conversation will eventually lead to my adorable nieces and nephew! Additionally, I enjoy nature and frequently take my three crazy dogs for hikes. Reading is also my passion. I am always in search of recommendations for quality literature, particularly children’s books. As an enthusiastic music lover, I apologize in advance if you ever hear me singing in the car! I have been blessed with many teachers as friends, and I cherish my time with them as both inspirations and mentors!
