ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER

The Environmental Center was established in 1999. The need for an outdoor classroom and a space for students to relax and enjoy the scenery was the inspiration (see pictures below). 

 The Environmental Center is funded primarily by collecting Box Tops for Education (see link below). Box Tops are found on 100's of items and earn our school 10 cents per coupon.

Arbor Day Celebration
 
Arbor Day is celebrated in Pennsylvania on the last Friday in April. Members of the Lehighton Shade Commission, the Department of Conservation and National Resources, and Pennsylvania Power and Light, come to the Environmental Center to put on a program.
 
Student presenters give a tour of the site and educate participants on the history and species of trees that are now at the center. Each participant is given a sapling to plant in the community.  The event also includes a poster contest and tips on tree planting.
