Kid Writing

As you know, Kid Writing is a very important part of our day! It gives the children the opportunity to further develop many skills. Some of these skills
include letter/sound identification, letter formation, word sense, segmenting sounds, blending sounds, and many more!

Our Daily Kid Writing Routine:

1. We gather together to review some of the things that good writers do.
2. We then take time to think of an interesting topic.
3. We create an illustration to match our topic.
4. We write with the assistance of an adult using our Kid Writing skills.
5. The adult does the underwriting and praises the things the child did well.
6. We gather together for the mini lesson.

We will begin the year in Kid Writing by working on:

-establishing our Kid Writing environment and routines
-drawing illustrations with some detail
-using different colors in our illustration
-talking about our illustration
-making sure our illustration matches our words

*Although we encourage children to write letters neatly, we do not focus on handwriting during Kid Writing.

Handwriting is taught during a separate time of the day.
