Miss Schmidt
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Reading homework is sent home 1-2 times a week during the first half of the year. Homework is sent home daily during the second half of the year (Monday - Thursday). Homework is always sent home in your child's black homework folder. Your child only has homework if you see the black folder in his/her backpack.
During the first half of the year your child will bring home decodable reading books and/or paper sight word books to practice. Decodable books focus on the phonics skills that we are working on in class. Sight word books focus on the new sight word(s) that we are learning at school. Your child should read these books to you or another adult. After listening, please sign the parent signature sheet in the back of the folder and return the decodable book and folder to school. You may keep the paper sight word books. There is no set homework schedule during the first half of the year. I send these books home when I feel that the children are ready to share them with their families.
During the second half of the year your child will also bring home books to practice that he/she read during our Guided Reading class. These books are selected based on your child's individual reading level. Therefore, every child will have a different book to read. Your child should read his/her Guided Reading books to you or another adult. After listening, please write down the name of the book on the Guided Reading signature sheet, sign the sheet and return the book and folder to school.
Please contact me if you have any questions regarding homework.
Thanks, Miss Schmidt
