Grading Structure

Grading Framework

10% Homework and Preparation

Homework is graded as Complete, Partially Complete (lose 1 point), Not Complete (lose 2 points).

Please Note: These point values may be adjusted for certain assignments as needed.

  • Each student starts with 100 points per quarter
    • Can lose points for:
      • Being unprepared for class:
        • Coming to class without homework/classwork completed
        • Coming to class without class materials and a pencil
          • Periodic and random classwork/material checks will be worth 5 points each. For these checks, students can lose up to 5 points for being unprepared.

10% Class Work/Participation

Notes, Short Class Assignments, Stations Work, Question of the Day, Daily work ethic and participation

  • Each student starts with 100 points per quarter
  • Graded as Complete, Partially Complete (lose 1 point), Not Complete (lose 2 points)

15% Quizzes

Quizzes will be given as we progress through information in a unit. The notes students take in class should be used as a study guide for each quiz, but please be sure to also review other assignments in the interactive notebook and your textbook! Content from labs and class assignments may also appear on the quiz. Begin studying each time we start a new unit to ensure success on each quiz! For certain quizzes you will be permitted to use your interactive notebook as a resource. This will NOT be announced prior to the quiz. Come prepared with your updated notebook each day.

20% Interactive Science Notebooks (ISN) and Labs

The ISN will contain lab assignments and will be graded using a 10 point rubric. Some labs may be graded using a separate rubric or checklist depending on the objectives of that lab.

45% Tests and Projects

All students will take notes in their ISN from which they will study for assessments. Students should also study the assigned reading for all assessments and other information in their ISN. Content from labs and class assignments will appear on the test.

Students will receive a PowerPoint which will function as the Study Guide at least 2 days before a test; however, students should begin studying their notes and classwork each time we start a new unit to ensure success on each test!

Projects are assignments, group or individual, which last several class periods. These assignments will be graded based on requirements specific to each project.
