Dear Families,

          I hope you enjoyed the long fall weekend with your child. It seems like cooler weather has arrived. Please make sure your child has a jacket for recess.

          This week we are reading the story Dig Dig Digging. We will learn the new words be, it, no, & up. Please add these new words to your sight word flash cards and practice each night. To keep sight words fun you can: put them on post it notes throughout the house and have your child search for them or just say the word each time he/she walks by, play sight word memory, sight word Jenga (maybe you have an extra Jenga game that you can write sight words on), Lego sight words (Again, maybe you have extra Lego pieces. If you write some sight words on them, your child can build, create and learn at the same time!) or sight word stomp (Lay your sight words on the floor, tell your child a word, he/she hops or stomps on the word and reads it at the same time.) I hope you are able to use some of these ideas at home.  

Our new question of the week will be How do machines help people work? We will also be learning about the letter Tt. Please have your child bring in an item for our sound muncher that begins or ends with the /t/ sound (turtle, train, toy top or cat, bat, mitt, etc.) by Thursday. They only need to bring in one item.

Our reading test for the letter t sound will be on Friday. Your child will need to read the words be, it, no, & up as well.

          This week in Science we will have our apples test today. Our culminating project for this unit is…making our own homemade applesauce. I am hoping to do this on Friday. Out next unit in Science will be leaves. We will start this tomorrow.
