Developmental Psychology
"The purpose of psychology is to give us a completely different idea of the things we know best."
-Paul Valery, French writer
The fourth unit of this course may possibly be the most frustrating for you. This is a major reason why psychology is part of the course title. During this unit, we will discuss and compare four major theorists in the field of developmental psychology. To help ease frustration during this chapter, it is essential that you try to make connections between what we are learning in the classroom with your own personal life experiences.
By the end of this two week chapter, you should be able to answer the following essential questions completely and confidently.
How do the four major theorists we discussed compare in terms of human development?
How do you respond to your environment?
According to Erik Erikson, what are the eight stages of human development?
According to Robert Havighurst, what are the developmental tasks of teenagers?
What did Abraham Maslow mean by the 'hierarchy of needs?'
How do Kohlberg's stages of development compare to Erikson, Havighurst, and Maslow?
