Micro Unit Seven: Tolerance and Diversity

Tolerance and Diversity

"When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others.”

-Mildred Norman Ryder (aka Peace Pilgrim), Spiritual teacher

During the final unit of this course, we will be examining and discussing the topics of tolerance and diversity.  On a growing level, our school, our state, our country, and our world is becoming more and more diverse.  All of us will go to school with, work with, live next to, or even live with people that test our patience and make times difficult.  The goal of this unit is to help you learn to focus on the similarities that people have, not the differences.

By the end of this eight-to-nine day unit, you should be able to answer the following essential questions completely and confidently.

What is the difference between tolerance and intolerance?  Is it natural or learned?

Where do people learn intolerance?

In your opinion, what is normal?

How does intolerance affect today's youth?

How would you handle a situation where your boss is from a different demographic group than you?

How did this unit help you understand tolerance and diversity better?
