I’m  Karen Pasquel and I am a Title 1 Reading Specialist here at F.A. March Elementary.  I come from a large family and am originally from Northern NJ.  In 1990, I graduated with a degree in Education, including a concentration in Reading. I began my career as a teacher immediately, working for over 10 years in the Pleasant Valley School District, before coming to Easton and teaching at Tracy Elementary in 2006, then F. A. March in 2012.  During the summer, I have worked as an instructor at Northampton Community College in Bethlehem.

In 2010, I achieved National Board Certification For Teachers  (NBCT) in the specialty area of literacy. I especially want to thank Mr. Craig Downey and Mrs. Lyn Krenz, two Bethlehem Area School teachers who mentored me through the process, and Mrs. Jean Mulrine, for her guidance and taping experience.  This was an exciting, comprehensive and rigorous endeavor.  It’s designed to improve one’s teaching practices, and as a result, provide a greater impact upon student learning. For more information on Nationally Board Certified Teachers and teaching excellence, please click the link above.  Click Here  to read more information about NBPTS_NCLB.pdf   what makes a higly qualified teacher -under the ramifications  & Standards of National Board.

At March Elementary I work as a Title 1 reading specialist, seeing students daily for reading support using research-based intensive intervention programs.  More information on these programs is available by clicking the Response to Intervention and Instruction link (page coming soon!).  I believe all children can learn.  Some children may need more time or may need more support.  I believe children learn in many ways and I will do my best to help each child  and their family in the journey towards motivation and success.

Here is some information about my educational background.   In 1995,  I obtained a Master’s Degree in Education, a Reading Specialist degree, and became a member of The International Reading Association.   In addition to teaching in a school system, I have experience as a dance instructor and as an associate director of dance. It’s hard to believe, but for years I taught school during the day and dance classes in the evenings.    Of course, this was prior to the births of my two children, Austin (2000) & Timmy(2003).   Another interesting accomplishment occurred in January 2006.   I authored an article on integrating school curriculum into dance and movement classes, titled “Themes And Variations”, featured in January’s 2006 edition of  “Dance Teacher Magazine” - a journal for dance educators and studio owners.

During my personal time, I spend time with my family.   I love to read, walk my dog, collect Dr. Seuss memorabilia, and take dance or yoga classes.  We also have a dog, Latte, who is a shep/rotti mix.
