Dear Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,
Welcome to third grade! My name is Jessica Shaffer and I will be your child’s teacher. I am looking forward to getting to know your child and I am excited for a new year and a fresh start. I am also looking forward to working closely with you to help your child meet their full potential. I am available by email, phone, or written letter. I believe that communication should be open at all times. Please contact me with questions or concerns at any time during the year.
I would like to tell you a little about my expectations and what you can expect from me. Students will receive homework Monday through Thursday and very rarely on Friday. Homework is meant to reinforce skills learned during class time and is a window into weaknesses that students may be experiencing as well as their strengths. I expect homework to be completed every night. If it is not completed then students will miss recess. If it becomes a habit then I will contact you and work together to find a solution. I will give notice of upcoming tests so that students can study and parents will know what is coming up. Each student will receive a planner where they will record their daily assignments and upcoming tests. I will be checking planners every day to ensure the assignments are recorded. It will really benefit your child if you could check their planner every night to reinforce responsibility.
My goal is to create a positive, comfortable, and safe classroom environment. This involves the cooperation of all my students. As the year progresses we will work together to ensure our classroom is the best that it can be. It will be a place where all students get along and work together to solve conflict in an appropriate manner. I will be sending home my expectations for year so that you can review them with your child. If we all work together the outcome will be awesome!!! I am looking forward to meeting you soon. Thank you in advance for all you do and will do to help your child succeed!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Shaffer
