6th Grade
This 6th Grade class is an introductory course designed around the hands-on world of Manufacturing Technology. Everything learned in 6th Grade will immensely strengthen the success in 7th & 8th Grade Technology Education. After receiving a comprehensive lesson on machine safety and measuring, students are ready to begin manufacturing their tic-tac-toe project. Using Pine as the main species of choice, the tic-tac-toe project involves drilling 11 holes and cutting 10 dowel rods for the game pieces. Students will learn how to paint and mask the pegs to make two teams of five pegs - ten pegs total. Students will also learn the difference between large and small grit sandpaper and the proper application for each. After a door is fabricated and attached, the project is ready for evaluation. I will only meet with 6th Grade students once a week for a total of 18 classes. Each class will begin with a detailed demonstration and discussion. At the end of the semester, students will have fabricated a working tic-tac-toe project that they will always be proud of.
Tic-Tac-Toe Project
(This project requires moderate measuring)
The tic-tac-toe project is designed economically from 2x4 stock. There are also two ¾” holes drilled in the side to store the 10 pegs, each at 1 ½” in length. They are secured inside the game with a small rotational door attached with a screw. The screw hole will be drilled with a countersink bit to show students how to hide the head of the screw for a more aesthetic appearance. This project takes about 12-15 days to complete from start to finish. This project costs about 70 cents to manufacture.
