Mr. C's Mathemagical Website!
The Mathematic Visisions Project Secondary Mathematics 1 Curriculum was created as a resource to teachers who desire to implement the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) using a task-based approach that leads to skill and efficiency in mathematics by first developing understanding. The MVP approach is neither purely constructivist nor purely traditional. Rather, the approach takes seriously the Standards of Mathematical Practice and develops these practices through experiential learning in mathematics. Students engage in mathematical problem solving, guided by skilled teachers, with the desired outcome that students will achieve mathematics proficiency as defined in Adding It Up—conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, strategic competence, adaptive reasoning, and productive disposition. (taken from MVP Introduction to Materials, read the rest here.)
Each lesson requires student begin with an engaging probrlem which requires a thoughful approach to finding its solution. Multiple approaches are encouraged, as students can take different paths to arrive at a solution.
Homework assignments are divided into three parts: "Ready," a selection of problems that are review from previous lessons; "Set," a selection of problems that reinforce the day's lesson, and "Go," a selection of problems to set students up for success in the following day's activity.
We will be completing Module 1 (Equations and Inequalities), Module 2 (Systems of Equations and Inequalities), Module 8 (Data Analysis), Module 6 (Congurence, Constructions and Proof) and Module 7 (Connecting Algebra and Geometry). The materials we will be using in class can be found here.
Optionally, some lessons from this resource may be used to complement the SAS Algebra 1 Materials.
