Living things depend on their habitat to meet their basic needs.
Humans depend upon the management and practices of agricultural systems.
The health of all living things is directly related to the quality of the environment.
People acting individually and/or as groups influence the environment.

1. Define environmental science, and compare environmental science with ecology.
2. List the five major fields of study that contribute to environmental science.
3. Describe the major environmental effects of hunter-gatherers, the agricultural revolution, and the Industrial Revolution.

Ecology is the study of the interactions between organisms and the environment. There are various scales of study in ecology, the largest being at the level of the ecosystem, the next being at the level of the community and the smallest is at thepopulation level.
