Big Idea #6:  Organisms obtain and use energy to carry out their life processes. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the common currency of cellular energy.

  5. Cellular respiration is the process by which potential chemical energy in the bonds of glucose is transformed into potential chemical energy in the bonds of ATP. (S11.A.1.3.2; S11.B.1.1.3; S11.C.2.1.2)
  6. Glycolysis is the foundation of both aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Glycolysis, through anaerobic respiration, is the main energy source in many prokaryotes. (S11.B.1.1.3; S11.C.2.1.2)
